Abu Dhabi Grand Slam Kicks Off 2017/18 Jiu-Jitsu World Tour

The UAE Jiu-jitsu Federation, UAEJJF, has announced the third staging of jiu-jitsu world tour, “Abu Dhabi Grand Slam Jiu-Jitsu World Tour” for 2017 and 2018.

Dubbed as the most prestigious Jiu-Jitsu tour in the world, the Grand Slam will be held in five international host cities around the world; Los Angeles [USA], Tokyo [Japan], Rio de Janeiro [Brazil], Abu Dhabi [UAE] and London [UK]. The tour kicks off on July 15 [2017], in Tokyo, Japan. Then it travels back to Los Angeles, USA on September 23-24 [2017]. The third stop will be in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on November 10-12 [2017]. The fourth leg is scheduled for January 12-13 [2018], in Abu Dhabi, UAE. The tour wraps up once again in London, England, on March 10-11 [2018].

The Abu Dhabi Grand Slam is open to all nationalities, all Belts, Juveniles, Adults, Masters & Legends. Medalists will be listed in the jiu-jitsu world rankings and combined cash prizes of more than $800,000 will be awarded to the top athletes of each division. The top three academies will also receive cash prizes in each host city, and top ranked competitors will receive prizes at the end of the season according to the UAEJJF World Ranking.

Commenting on the announcement, Abdulmunam Al Hashemi, Chairman of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation and Senior Vice President of Jiu-Jitsu International Federation, said:

“We are very pleased to announce the season 3 of the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam. It has been an incredible journey so far in a very short space of time. Last season the grand slam was broadcast to 400m homes in 85 countries through our 14 TV network partners around the world, and I say this proudly, making the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam the most valuable jiu-jitsu TV show globally.”

With competition days almost doubled in some of the cities, the number of Grand Slam participants is ballooning year on year to turn it into a behemoth of a comepition trotting the globe.

That’s not all for this season! For the first time in the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam history, a new category of ‘Legends’ will be introduced, where legends of the art will be matched together for ‘super fights’.
