The Muay Thai and Kickboxing World Champion Antonina Shevchenko, is set to fight in “Phoenix 3: London – UK vs. The World” in an MMA bout. Yes that’s right. The second Shevchenko sister has crossed into the world of MMA.
After a spectacular Muay Thai performance in Phoenix 2, that took place this last April in Lebanon, she is back for more. The Phoenix Fighting Champion, WMC and Lion Fight Muay Thai World Champion will fight a former BCMMA Bantamweight and UCF K2 Featherweight Champion Kerry Hughes (3-2-0) from United Kingdom on September 22, 2017, in the Indigo, O2 arena, London.
This won’t actually be the first time Antonina steps into the MMA world however. Shevchenko has one recorded pro MMA win on her record from 2005 when she fought Hyun Sung Kim in WXF – X- Impact World Championship. It is also said that like other Western European fighters, she may have some other unregistered MMA experience boosting her confidence for the upcoming fight.
The Kyrgystani/Peruvian is heavy striker who fought over 300 matches in Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Taekwondo, Boxing, and Sanda as an amateur. She is a 7-time Muay Thai world champion and 3-time World IFMA Muay Thai Champion with a 38-1 kickboxing/Muay Thai record.
Her sister, Valentina Shevchenko (14-2), also a MuayThai world champion and UFC title contender in the premier women’s division, will be fighting for the title on July 8 at UFC 213. The two sisters support, boost and train together constantly improving their fighting skills. It will definitely show through in Phoenix 3 as Antonina delves deeper into MMA.
