After a seven-year hiatus, Egyptian Top Team coach Mohamed Abdul Hamid took up Jiu Jitsu again, and returned from Brazil with a well earned purple belt promotion. Abdul Hamid, preoccupied with coaching and developing local MMA talent at Egyptian Top Team, had stopped practicing the sport earlier as a blue belt. Yet, it seems that this Ramadan offered him the right opportunity to pursue what he likes best and add a new belt to his arsenal.
Following a rigorous testing process under Andre Pederneiras, Mohamed stepped in as the first Egyptian to be promoted at the Nova União academy in Brazil. Andre was truly impressed by Abdul Hamid’s skills and expressed his appreciation accordingly, mentioning that Mohammed had managed to out-grapple black belts during his stay.
Regarded as one of the top Jiu Jitsu academies in the world, Nova União academy is behind some of the top names in the sport such Renan “Barão”, José Aldo, Jussier “Formiga” and many others.
The team led by Wendell Alexander and André Pederneiras has been at the forefront of Jiu Jitsu and was regarded as one of the top 3 BJJ academies in the world.
Learning is definitely what makes great coaches!
