The co-main event of Brave 12 witnessed a highly anticipated welterweight title eliminator bout between Tahar Hadbi vs Jarrah Al-Silawi.
The fight was an entertaining 3 round contest full of closely contested action.
Brave 12 “KHK Legacy” took place Friday May 11, 2018, in Jakarta, Indonesia. The event aired on Abu Dhabi Sports, StarSat, Vodacom, Combate, and iNews TV.
Both men displayed the important virtue of patience in the 1st round, trying to size each other up. Al-Silawi makes a mistake by Hadbi, who is taken down after a missed kick that is caught by his opponent. The takedown is short lived as Hadbi defends viciously while being dragged against the cage. He receives a verbal warning from the referee after he grabs the cage, but the fight is restarted. Hadbi pressures Al-Silawi against the cage, but Al-Silawi pulls guard trying to trap Hadbi. Having done his homework, Hadbi disengages from Al-Silawi’s dangerous bottom game and gets the fight back to the feet. Both fighters then start opening up their striking game, Al-Silawi mixing it up more between both punches and kicks. As always, Hadbi showcases some good and fast boxing skills, stalking Al-Silawi against the cage and picking his shots, finding a home for them on some occasions. Al-Silawi pulls guard again after some pressure by Hadbi, and the opening round ends.
In the 2nd round, Hadbi pressures forward and stiffs a takedown attempt initiated by Al-Silawi. He has Al-Silawi on his backfoot, but Al-Silawi is still landing well, especially with his powerful kicks. Strangely, Hadbi pressures Al-Silawi up against the cage and this time clinches with him, but Al-Silawi exists and gets back to the middle of the cage, switching his stance constantly while investing in throwing kicks. Al-Silawi shoots in for a takedown, but again Hadbi’s defense is spot on. The round ends with Hadbi obviously looking to land one big shot big shot while Al-Silawi throws multiple kicks to the legs, body and head kicks.
The final round begins with Hadbi stalking once again, this time with more desperation. Al-Silawi tries to land his favorite Uchimata takedown, but Hadbi stuffs him and disengages. Body kick lands by Jarrah while Hadbi looks to get into boxing range. The body kicks seem to have taken their toll on Hadbi who looks to be tired and breathing heavy. Al-Silawi makes use of the situation, putting some pressure on Hadbi and finding a home for a lot of his shots. Al-Silawi dives for another takedown, but is once again stuffed by Hadbi who goes back into stalking mode. Several more kicks land by Al-Silawi, who closes the round by attempting to land a spinning heel kick to the face that caught the attention of the judges.
Jarrah Al-Silawi defeats Tahar Hadbi via unanimous decision.
