The 2018 IMMAF Junior World Championships will now take place in Bahrain in parallel with the IMMAF (Senior) World Championships, from 11 to 17 November. Meanwhile, the 2018 IMMAF Asian Open Championships are to be rescheduled to March 2019.
Unfortunately, IMMAF has been forced to take the decision due to unexpected sanctioning issues raised by the China International Mixed Martial Arts Federation.
IMMAF apologises wholeheartedly for all inconvenience and disappointment caused. Registered participants, officials and staff will be entitled to refunds. Senior participants will also be offered the choice of reallocating their application to the World Championships, as approved by the participant’s National Federation.
IMMAF President Kerrith Brown said:
“I would like to express my extreme disappointment at the state of affairs and apologise on behalf of IMMAF for all inconvenience caused by the postponement of the two Championships. This is not a decision that has been taken lightly. As a governing body we take our accountability to members very seriously, and lack of assurance at this late stage means we are unable to honorably run the risk of leaving critical elements to chance. We appreciate that participants, staff and volunteers will be very disappointed, but we consider the postponement of the event to mitigate greater potential damage. We will be working to reimburse participants, staff and volunteers for approved expenses already incurred and to reasonably assure that they are not left out of pocket. We must look forward now to the successful delivery of the Senior and Junior World Championships in Bahrain in November.”
