The name on the poster is new. The people behind it are not.
Zaid Mirza, who founded Desert Force in Amman in 2010, and promoter Mohammad Mirza, who helped build it into the Arab world’s first major MMA promotion, are back in the fight business. Their new event, DF UNCAGED, takes place Oct. 30 inside the Roman Amphitheatre in downtown Amman, Jordan, and closes out a six-day Jordan MMA Week.
It may not carry the old brand name. But for a generation of Arab fighters and fans, the message is clear: the Mirzas are back.
When the original promotion launched in October 2010, professional MMA in the region barely existed. It opened with an elimination series to crown the Arab world’s first champions in seven weight classes, drew fighters from 13 countries, ran under the Unified Rules and put the sport on free-to-air television across the region through MBC Action. A reality series followed in 2013. For many of the region’s best fighters, it was the first professional stage they ever had.
That history is the foundation for the new event, but organizers are careful to frame it as a step forward, not a reunion. DF UNCAGED is billed as “not a revival of what came before, but a larger property built on everything it proved.”
For founder Zaid Mirza, the week matters as much as the night.
“When we started in Amman in 2010, the goal was simple: give Arab fighters a professional stage at home,” Zaid Mirza said. “Jordan MMA Week takes that further. For six days, the world will see the Citadel, the Dead Sea and the Roman Theatre through the eyes of the fight. That is good for MMA, good for Jordan and good for every young athlete in this region who will look at this and know what is possible. This isn’t a comeback. It’s the next chapter.”
The card reflects that bigger ambition. Former ACA welterweight champion Mukhammad Berkhamov headlines against American Dante Schiro. While the co-main event, pits “The Ultimate Fighter 23” winner and former UFC middleweight Andrew Sanchez against Russian power puncher Mikhail Ragozin.
And there is a very familiar face from the early days. Lebanon’s Mohammad Fakhreddine (18-5), a BRAVE CF Hall of Famer and the promotion’s first two-division world champion, returns at 42 to face Wales’ John Martin Fraser (11-6) at a 202-pound catchweight. Fraser, a Cage Warriors and UAE Warriors veteran, is eight years younger and brings a heavy top game.

“I’ve done it all. What keeps me going are moments like this – feeling young and fresh, reliving the old days with the latest version of myself,” Fakhreddine said. “On top of that, fighting in the amphitheatre is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. At this point, it’s about the show for me – proving again and again that age is just a number, and that you can still knock people out for a living at 42,” he added with a laugh.
The 14-bout professional card features fighters from 16 nations, including four Jordanians competing at home.
The setting is part of the pitch. Fight week includes a press conference at the Amman Citadel on Oct. 27, open workouts on the Dead Sea Corniche on Oct. 28 and ceremonial weigh-ins at the Odeon Theatre on Oct. 29, before fight night inside the nearly 1,900-year-old amphitheatre. The main card airs live and free-to-air on MBC Action at 9 p.m. local time (2 p.m. ET).
Promoter Mohammad Mirza says the setting raised the bar for the card itself.
“We didn’t want a regional show with a few imported names,” Mohammad Mirza said. “We wanted a former ACA champion in the main event, an Ultimate Fighter winner in the co-main, fighters from 16 countries and Arab stars who can stand with any of them. Putting a cage, a live broadcast and a full international production inside a monument that is almost 1,900 years old is the hardest thing we’ve ever done. That’s exactly why we did it.”
