Sometimes, a match-up just makes perfect sense. Just like the “Yousef Wehbe Vs. Anas Siraj Mounir” match-up, it seems as though Desert Force matchmaker is open to making “Walid Seghir Vs. Ezzedine Al Derbane” happen after Seghir called out the interim champ inside a social media feud.
It’s been more than two years since the division’s champion Aziz Julaidan has defended his 66Kg title. In March 2016, Julaidan was scheduled for his first title defense against the Bahraini Hamza Kooheji before injury had him pull out of the Desert Force 21 headliner. That day, Ezzedline Al Derbane (5-0-0) stepped in on short notice to shock Julaidan’s challenger with a crushing knee in the opening seconds of the first round.
Watch it again here:
Al Derbane was crowned interim champion, and it’s safe to say he has asserted himself as a legitimate title contender with his victory over Kooheji.
On the other hand, Algerian fighter Walid Seghir (4-2-0) made a successful promotional debut at Desert Force 20 as he managed to sink in a tight rear-naked-choke against Filipino opponent Vaughn Donayre 3 minutes into the first round. He then took the opportunity to call out the Desert Force featherweight champion Aziz Julaidan who hadn’t defended his title yet.
Another year passed, and Walid Seghir made it no secret that he wasn’t interested in fighting Desert Force champion Aziz Julaidan anymore. After initially calling him out following his Desert Force debut, Seghir posted on social media that his interest is the face the current interim title holder Ezzedine Alderbane. And yes, Alderbane accepted the challenge!
Two former “Al Batal” TV show stars will now meet inside the Desert Force cage, but only one will go home with the Shield!
