Islam Makhachev will face the former RFA lightweight champion, Thiago Moises at the UFC Fight Night on 17 July 2021. Makhachev is 8-1-0 in the UFC and trains alongside former UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov.
Makhachev is a Sambo world champion and is on a seven-fight win streak. In his previous bout, he had a third-round submission victory over Drew Dober at UFC 259. He is currently ranked 10th in the UFC lightweight rankings.
His opponent Moises (4-2 UFC, 15-4 MMA) is riding a three-fight win streak and last fought at UFC Fight Night 186, where he earned a unanimous decision win over Alexander Hernandez. However, the odds seem to be in favor of the lightweight from Dagestan who is adept in wrestling. Moises has fallen short on two occasions in the UFC, losing decisions in bouts against wrestlers, Beneil Dariush and Damir Ismagulov.
