MEFC 2: Abzakh Sleeps Anwar, El Nagashi Shines

Middle East Fighting Championship 2 (MEFC 2) took place live on January 26 at Danat Al Ain Resort in the United Arab Emirates.

Nawras Abzakh vs. Azouz Anwar

The headline bout featured Nawras Abzakh and Azouz Anwar. Abzakh, known as “The Honey Badger” is a UAE Warriors Arabia bantamweight champion. Despite a recent loss to Brazilian veteran, Victor Nunes, the 32-year-old athlete aimed to rebound by facing off against Egypt’s Azouz Anwar.

Abzakh started the round by pushing Anwar back into the cage with his punches. The Egyptian fighter countered with a takedown attempt, but Abzakh blocked it. He threatened his opponent with a guillotine choke attempt. However, Anwar was able to stand up. Abzakh successfully executed his strategy to keep his opponent close to the fence. After another unfruitful takedown attempt, Anwar reversed position and he was the one pushing to the fence. Both fighters tied up in a clinch with Abzakh peppering Anwar with knee strikes.

The referee had enough and separated them. After some striking exchanges, Anwar went for another takedown and once again he was sprawled down by Abzakh. “The Honey Badger” went to his back and put hooks in. After some punches and switching from hooks to triangle lock on the belly, Abzakh choked his opponent out.

Ibrahim El Nagashi vs. Ahmad Al Rubaye.

El Nagashi stepped in for Ali Reza Sadeshi, who was punched by Al Rubaye at the weigh-ins. This led to a cut under his eye, rendering him unable to fight. El Nagashi took the fight on the morning of the fight day. Despite that he showed his domination through the entirety of the fight, picking up Al Rubaye and throwing him down hard on the canvas. He dictated the paste through all 15 minutes of action to sounds of cheers from the crowd to take the Unanimous Decision win.

Hazem Kayyali vs. Abrreahman Smaili

The IMMAF 2021 World Championship gold medalist Kayyali made his professional debut by taking on Abrreahman Smaili. Kayyali took his opponent to the ground and worked on him from the side mount. He smothered him with an elbow to the face, attempted Americana, and followed it with a full mount. From there he switched to a Head and arm choke, taping Smaili out.
