London, U.K. – The Ultimate Fighting Championship® makes its first visit to Berlin, Germany on Saturday, May 31, 2014 with an exciting clash of middleweights looking to get back into the title hunt. No. 7 ranked contender Mark “The Filipino Wrecking Machine” Munoz (13-4, fighting out of Lake Forest, Calif.) takes on the former Strikeforce® light heavyweight king and No. 12 Gegard “The Dreamcatcher” Mousasi (34-4, fighting out of Leiden, Netherlands) with the winner trying to storm the top 5 and prove their championship mettle.
The headliners both spoke about the exciting opportunity to fight in Germany’s capital “I’ve always wanted to go to Berlin,” said Munoz. “To be able to compete there is an added bonus. Berlin is a historic place and I’m looking forward to being part of MMA history and putting on a great show for the fans! Mousasi is a great opponent and competitor. I am looking forward to competing against him and getting one step closer to fighting for the title.”
Mousasi added “”Mark Munoz is an excellent opponent and sportsman. I am looking forward to competing in Berlin. It will be a great fight and I am happy to test my skill set against Mark.”
Then, in the night’s co-main event, ninth-ranked middleweight Francis “Limitless” Carmont (22-8, fighting out of Montreal, Canada) looks to continue his torrid run that has seen him go 6-1 inside the Octagon® to face former Ultimate Fighter Season 7 runner-up CB Dollaway (14-5, fighting out of Tempe, Ariz.), who is coming off a phenomenal 1st round TKO of Cezar Ferreira in Brazil.
In addition, undefeated UK prospect Luke “Big Slow” Barnatt (8-0, fighting out of Cambridge, UK) looks to continue his winning ways against fellow middleweight Sean Strickland (14-0, fighting out of Corona, Calif.), fresh off a submission win over Bubba McDaniel in his UFC® debut last month.
Also in action is Germany’s own Nick Hein (10-1, fighting out of Cologne, Germany), looking to thrill his fellow countrymen when he takes on Muay Thai specialist Drew Dober (14-5, fighting out of Omaha, Neb.), who would love nothing more than to spoil the party.
Meanwhile, after almost four years’ absence, German Peter Sobotta (13-4-1, fighting out of Balingen, Germany) will make his return to the Octagon, as he meets unbeaten newcomer Pawel Pawlak (10-0) of Poland, who has ended nine of his ten wins by knockout or submission.
