War Machine, the ex UFC and Bellator mixed martial arts fighter, has been sentenced to 36years to life in prison. On the counts of sexually assaulting, beating and kidnapping his ex-girlfriend, Christine Mackinday, in 2014.This very high level MMA fighter unfortunately has a past of criminal activity that has put him in and out of jail when he turned his lethal weapons fists onto regular people.
The judge concluded the case on Monday 5th of June, 2017, not only for the hideous acts he committed in this one instance but also for the safety and wellbeing of Mackinday and any other potential victims.
On that gruesome day in 2014, War Machine otherwise known as Jonathan Koopenhaver, made his way to Mackinday’s home where she slept next to her then boyfriend Cory Thomas. He began to beat the two of them. Thomas managed to get away, however Mackinday was not so fortunate. She sustained an estimated two full hours of repeated abuse and suffered “two missing teeth, broken ribs, a fractured eye socket, a lacerated liver and had her hair ‘sawed off’ with a knife” the website Sherdog.com states.
Mackinday has not recovered from the incident and remains incredibly fearful for her life. Apparently he told her that if he is given jail time for the act, he would have his friends kill her. She lives in continuous terror and said:
“I don’t know how much time in prison would make me feel right, but I do know that when he gets out he will kill me.”
Koopenhaver ” WAR MACHINE ” has stated that he has found religion since the occasion and stated an apology with the enlightened faith soon after the situation. He has also since then said that he hates himself for what he did. However, while incarcerated since the event took place, he also supposedly managed to post on social media. It is said that he took the time to post his criticisms of judges and prosecutors. When in court he shrugged, smiled, laughed and even blow a kiss at Chief Deputy District Attoreny Jacquline Bluth.
His claims of becoming a man of faith and peace have not affected his case.
“Well, that didn’t go very well, now did it? Would you believe me, though, if I said that I have nothing but joy inside, even now as I am sure to receive some type of life sentence? It’s true. Often times I have heard men in neighboring cells go to their cells and cry after receiving such news, but how can I? How can I cry tears of sorrow over the circumstances responsible for saving my soul? These circumstances are what has transformed me into a real man, how can I disrespect god by weeping over them? How much is a soul worth? … READ MORE
His lawyer, Jay Leiderman, brought to light that Koopenhaver’s childhood abuse, the use of substances steroids, Adderall, and Lexapro, as well as traumatic brain injury all play a part in the character that acted on impulse and committed the act. It was asked that these points be considered when his penalty decided. It is true that abuse during childhood and brain injuries may cause damage to a person and elicit criminal behavior. Is it grounds to soften a jail sentence? Not everyone would agree.
This human weapon has a criminal record stemming from 2002. His violent behavior outside the cage includes a heavy brawl inside and outside a club where a bouncer and several others endured injury.
This 35 year old appeared on the Joe Rogan experience, known as UFC commentator and mixed martial artist, where he discusses his childhood and life experiences. It gives a better feel for who the guy is and is worth a watch.
No one debates whether or not he inflicted damage to his ex-girlfriend. It is to be mentioned however that sometimes the validity of the claims of a victim to have a defended incarcerated can be questionable. The personality of the two involved can make a difference. Mackinday and War machine are bothex-adult entertainers. When watching part of her testimony, it is possible that some may bring her character into question; how much of her description of the abuse throughout their 15 month relationship is true?It is possible that his previous record and lifestyle could have played into the harsh sentencing, and it is possible that everything she said is true and a balanced conviction was judged.
After completing one of his prison sentencesthe welterweight Koppenhaver(14-5-0) was given the opportunity to jump straight back into the cage.
A cast member on “The Ultimate Fighter 6” he won against Jared Rollins in a spectacular performance. In May 2008 his contract was scratched after he lost to Yoshiyuki Yoshida in UFC 84, and he went on to compete in various time in different promotions. After his last defeat in Bellator MMA, October 2013 he called it quits (4 months before the assault).
