Abu Dhabi Jiu-Jitsu Pro Expands to India and Kuwait, Fostering Global Growth

The Abu Dhabi Jiu-Jitsu Pro (AJP) Tour, a prestigious competition series aimed at promoting the sport globally, is set to host events in India and Kuwait. This marks a significant milestone in the expansion of jiu-jitsu across Asia and the Middle East.Nicola Intreccio one of the organisers for AJP (Right)

Established in Abu Dhabi, the AJP Tour has played a pivotal role in organizing jiu-jitsu as a global sport. By implementing comprehensive ranking systems, weight classes, and competition formats, the AJP has provided a clear framework for practitioners worldwide.

Introducing Jiu-Jitsu to New Markets

Nicola Intreccio spoke to Ashley Terence about the global expansion. The decision to host events in India and Kuwait stems from the Association of Professionals in Asia's (APA) significant investment in the region. Nic emphasized the need for a presence in these countries in our exclusive interview.

"India is a really interesting and challenging place," Nic stated, acknowledging the potential for growth in the subcontinent. "In Kuwait, we're going to see a lot of good players and already skilled players in the sport."

Overcoming Challenges and Nurturing Local Talent

Introducing jiu-jitsu to new markets presents challenges. Familiarizing athletes with the rules, online registration processes, and uniform requirements can be arduous. However, the AJP Tour is committed to supporting and nurturing local talent. There are also plans to organize training camps and academies in collaboration with national organizers, leveraging the expertise of champions from around the world. "We are more than happy to support," Nic affirmed, emphasizing the AJP Tour's dedication to fostering the development of jiu-jitsu in these regions.

Merging Jiu-Jitsu with the Olympic System

One of the key factors contributing to the success of the AJP Tour is its integration with the Olympic system. By adopting elements like country qualifiers and rankings, the AJP has created a framework that aligns with the Olympic model. This could potentially pave the way for jiu-jitsu's inclusion in future Olympic Games.

"We mix with the jiu-jitsu rules," Nic explained. "It's the perfect combination of the new jiu-jitsu style."

Economic Impact and Career Opportunities

Beyond promoting the sport, the AJP Tour's events in India and Kuwait are expected to have a significant economic impact. They will boost sectors such as tourism, hospitality, and sports infrastructure. Crucially, the AJP Tour aims to create a professional career path for athletes, allowing them to pursue jiu-jitsu as a full-time profession.

"The goal is to develop the sport in a way that allows athletes to create a career in the sport," Nic emphasized. "That's the secret."

As the AJP Tour India National Jiu-Jitsu Championship 2024 (Gi & No-Gi) takes place on June 22 in New Delhi, and the AJP Tour Kuwait National Jiu-Jitsu Championship 2024 (Gi & No-Gi) follows on June 21-22 in Al Jahra, the global jiu-jitsu community eagerly anticipates the potential for growth. Consequently; Abu Dhabi will be further established as the "land of champions" in this rapidly expanding martial art.
