KHK MMA’s Hussein Maki Makes First Run At IMMAF Worlds 2016 After Bronze At EU Open

In 2015, Bahrain MMA national team represented by KHK MMA made national history at the IMMAF European Open Championships.

Hussein Mahdi Maki left Birmingham with a well earned bronze medal, proving the progression of Amateur MMA scene in Bahrain was equipolent with Europe’s best. His most remarkable win came against Sweden’s Serdar Atlas, a 2015 IMMAF World Championship Silver Medalist. In the opening round, Mahdi took the back of Atlas to snatch a submission victory which shocked the crowd, but surely not H.H Sheikh Khalid and Coach Eldarov who were confidently cornering Mahdi.

It is worth mentioning that Mahdi’s opponent in the semi-finals went on to grab the gold in the competition.

This milestone achievement marked Bahrain’s first bronze medal overseas. It was the country’s second competition under IMMAF, and the first since the ground breaking launch of KHK MMA.

Check out this footage of the fight. Notice the technique and confidence level that set Mahdi as a solid bet for gold in this year’s world championships.

Come July 5 2016, a number of Bahraini athletes will be landing in Las Vegas, hoping to play their part in raising that figure and earning Bahrain more international medals.

Eight fighters including European Open IMMAF bronze medalist Mahdi, will be competing in the 3rd International Mixed Martial Arts amateur world championship. Also among the Bahraini team members is Abdulla Seena (India Open MMA Championship Gold Medalist) and Ali Ibrahimi who will be returning to Las Vegas following participation in the 2015 IMMAF World Championships.

The 2016 IMMAF Amateur World Championships will take place in Las Vegas, Nevada from 5-12 July at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

With much dedication from KHK MMA team and management, obvious improvement has been in sight throughout the latest local and international competitions. This year, it’s not about taking part and being around, it’s about proving ground and raising flags!
