Coming off devastating knockout victories inside the Octagon, Tristar Gym product John Makdessi and unbeaten Alan Patrick are set to meet in UFC 169 on Feb. 1 in Newark, N.J.
Makdessi, 28, has won three straight bouts since suffering back-to-back defeats to Dennis Hallman and Anthony Njokuani. A striking specialist, “The Bull” most recently competed at UFC 165, scoring a first-round knockout over Renee Forte on Sept. 21.
Patrick (11-0) impressed in his UFC debut last October by stopping Garett Whiteley in less than four minutes. A training partner of Ronaldo Souza, Rafael Cavalcante and Erick Silva, Patrick has six stoppage wins in his MMA record.
This 155-pound matchup should be a stellar feature for the preliminary card. Both men pack serious power with Makdessi being the far more seasoned Octagon performer with seven prior appearances. We know plenty about what Makdessi brings to the table in regards to skills and toughness, and this weekend we will learn a lot more about Patrick. He has plenty of promise, and a test against Makdessi will provide answers about his toughness and his ability to take a punch.
UFC 169 will be headlined by two championship fights, with bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz returning to the Octagon against interim champion Renan Barao, and Jose Aldo putting his featherweight title on the line against Ricardo Lamas.
