Zaruba Fight Night 6 featured nine entertaining affairs but a pair of prizefights stood above the rest.

In fact, Mahmoud Abdel Raouf and Mido Mohammad noticeably elevated the card in some regards. They took their fights last minute and put on great displays, respectively.

ZFN 6 transpired on Saturday, February 10th at Al Habtoor Grand Resort, in Dubai and despite several matchup shifts and hindrances, opportunities were capitalized on. Both of these warriors stepped up on less than 24 hours’ notice to compete and shone as a result.

In the fourth fight of the card, Mahmoud Abdel Raouf defeated Alphonse Viny Bessal. The outcome there was an armbar at 1:51 of round one.

Abdel Raouf was aiming to rebound from his first professional mixed martial arts loss here. This was an armbar defeat to Wasem Anwar in the second round at UAE Warriors 43: Arabia 12 last August 25th.

This was the second time a first-round submission was garnered by the Egyptian bantamweight. The initial win of that nature came against Ahmed Shoukry at GEC 1 in August 2019.

When asked how he feels after his recent Viny Bessal victory over the weekend, Abdel Raouf said,

“Ok… Sparring with my team is harder than this. Hard sparring with my team is harder than this… I have family here.”

When asked a subsequent question about his nickname ‘Halal Boy’, Abdel Raouf stated,

“Halal Boy out (of the cage). Inside, I’m not halal, I’m haram boy.”

In the ninth and final fight of the night, Mido Mohammad bested Benedict Venus. The main event ended with a footlock submission in the opening stanza.

Mohammad had a similar narrative heading into this one. He also was looking to regain momentum on the heels of his first-ever pro-MMA defeat. That setback came to Shyam Anand via a seventy-four-second first-round knockout at Matrix Fight Night 12 last July 1st.

This Venus win is the third submission win overall for Mohammad but this was his second pro-MMA sub to take place in the first round. That went down against Mustafa Kemal at Wawan MMA in July 2018.
