Mhamad Karaki Will Not be Defending his Title on the 25th of August

Right when everybody was looking ahead to see the first ever light heavyweight champion Mhamad Karaki defend his title in the UAE on the 25th of August, more surprises seemed to be brewing up. Following MBC Action crew’s visit to Lebanon to film the Arab champ, Grand Master Sami Kibwali, founder of Team shogun, dismissed heated rumors; Karaki will not be defending his title as he will face an Iranian opponent at middleweight:

“In preperation for his upcoming bout against Iranian opponent next month in Desert Force UAE on 84Kg, Team Shogun champ Mhamad Karaki has intensified his training routines with his coaches and team mates. The MBC Action crew has accompanied us today for a special “Qabl Al Muwajaha” documentary on Karaki’s preperations for the fight!”

Yes you heard it here first! It seems like we have a non title fight for the champ! Could it be “Majeed Sideeq”? Whoever it is, this is definitely the first time anything of the sort happens in the world of MMA. A champion, for no obvious reason, risking to lose all in case of a defeat!

What do you guys think? Then again, despite all the predictions and opinions, it’s been a while that Karaki hasn’t fought and I wouldn’t blame him for taking this fight at this time. At this point, this should be an easy fight for the champ, but after witnessing both Fakhreddine and Arkhagha dropping their belts to change divisions, this could very well be another crazy move.

Is the light heavy weight title vacant at the moment? More on the way as ArabsMMA staff investigates this issue in depth!
