Having had a hiatus from Mixed Martial Arts competition since 2015, Chabane Chaibeddra is finally back and will be making his Phoenix MMA Featherweight debut against Egypt’s Ahmed Fares.
Phoenix 6 will be headlined by a title fight pitting Mohammad Karaki vs. Sallah Dekhissi. In the co-main event, Hayder Hassan will take on Pavel Kusch in a welterweight bout. The event will take place on the 5th of April at the Du Forum, Abu Dhabi, UAE.
Though most of his fights were based on European soil and fight promotions, French/Algerian Chaibeddra (10-4-0) has already competed in the Arab region once before. At Desert Force 16: Saudi Arabia, Chaibeddra, who was still relatively unknown to Arab fans at that point, shockingly finished Rami Aziz with a first round baseball choke submission, making a huge statement. Training out of the MMA Factory in France under head coach Fernand Lopez, Chaibeddra’s MMA record and achievements point the needle strongly to his advantage in this one. His 10 wins came against respectable talents in Europe, where he finished 6 of them. He now faces one of the toughest MMA fighters to ever fight out of Egypt.
Jumping off a recent triangle choke submission victory at Brave CF 5: Go for Glory, Ahmed Fares (5-2-0) is glad to be finally making his Phoenix debut. Fares was expected to take on Nawras Abzakh at Brave 10, but it seems this opportunity came along at the right time. Fares is a grappling force that is not to be reckoned with when the fight hits the mat, having earned all of his 5 victories via submissions that range from rear-naked strangles to triangle chokes and arm-bar finishes. It is notable to say that his latest victim, Bharat Khandare, went on to make his UFC debut after losing to Fares. This surely is a big mental boost for the Egyptian coming into this fight.
Though Fares’s ground game and arsenal are versatile, Chaibeddra is the more experienced of the two fighters. It is interesting to see the strategy, tactics and reactions that Fares will adopt coming into this fight to earn the biggest victory of his career thus far.
