Following the lead of pioneer, Elizangela Conceicao, Jordanian BJJ female fighter Rana Qubbaj steps up for Arab woman in bjj.

The 2014 World Masters Jiu-Jitsu Championship went down this weekend at the Walter Pyramid, in Long Beach, California. Jordanian fighter, Rana Qubbaj won the heavyweight and the Absolute division in the World Masters Championship 2014 making her the first Jordanian and Arab woman to win TWO GOLD Medals in a World Championship!

Qubbaj won five medals this year 2 of which are gold , 2 silver and 1 bronze and the year isn’t even over yet! This is such an honor to women fighting in BJJ competitions as well as to woman in the Arab world, she stood for all women who don’t fight and those who do. Great job Qubbaj!

Rana trains at Source MMA under Samy Aljamal, one of the highest ranking Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belts of Arabic origin and one of the greatest propagators for the sport in countries such as the Kingdom of Jordan and Palestine.

Aljamal made BJJ available by starting the very first grappling and MMA academies in these countries (Source MMA), opening it also to women and the under privileged, forming, very possibly, the first women’s BJJ team in the Middle East and the first MMA academy in Palestine. Women like Rana Qubbaj have proven time and time again, that in Jiu Jitsu there are no ‘weaker sexes’, just one very powerful martial art.
