Bahrain – A title fight between Aziz Julaidan and the current undefeated featherweight champion Abdulkareem Al Selwady is as good as made as Al-Selwady scored a second-round submission win over a dangerous Hussein Salem.
The featherweight bout was the main event of Friday’s Desert Force event at Khalifa Sports City Arena after Julaidan the original contender, was unable to make it due to injury!
Both fighters started out fast and traded vicious strikes in the all-action bout, but despite a valiant effort from the challenger, Al-Selwady was eventually able to find his momentum. With his shield on the line, Al-Selwady landed a vicious elbow, and followed it up with a textbook rear-naked choke in Round 2, forcing the gutsy Salem to tap. It was an impressive performance by both fighters, and Al-Selwady’s first Desert Force title defense. Al-Selwady is now (4-0) and will be facing Aziz Julaidan in his yet to be revealed upcoming title defense.
After the fight, Al Selwady made it clear that he is here to stay, and no one will strip him off his shield! He mentioned this statement before and he delivered in Bahrain! Julaidan surely has a different approach to this story as he expressed his thoughts on Al Selwady having a weak ground game compared to his own. Nevertheless, that was an impressive performance by both fighters, and the first title Desert Force title defense is in the books!
