After the hosting of the Abu Dhabi Jiu Jitsu Clubs Cup that was held two weeks ago, Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Deputy Supreme Commander of UAE Armed Forces, will welcome the best fighters from around the world to a brand new state-of-the-art home for Jiu-Jitsu in the UAE capital from the 15th – 19th April 2014 which will be held at the FGB Arena at Zayed Sports City.
The WPBJJ tournament is considered to be the most prestigious championship among its other peers and the largest Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu event in the world, as the first championship was held in April 2009 at Abu Dhabi’s Zayed Sports City’s Tennis Court. The divisions are categorized as Adult Males, Adult Females, Masters Males, Senior 1 Males, Senior 2 Males and Senior 3 Males.
It is also worth noting that the divisions are sub categorized upon weight classes and belt rankings. As for the awards, cash prizes will be awarded to the Adult males and females divisions, with a specific amount that differs from a belt ranking to another, but with an exception of the white belts division who will earn no cash prizes.
As for the participation in this tournament, trials is not mandatory; however the winners of the trials have an all expenses (airfare, hotel, meals) paid trip to Abu Dhabi for the tournament. Current Desert Force contender Tarek A. Suleiman will be taking part in this tournament under the blue belt division, a participation that would give him a nod back to action, after rehabilitation amid a knee injury that sidelined him for several month. Suleiman is already set into his preparations for the tournament with the famous Team ATOS Lebanon. As a Tiger Muay Thai team member , Suleiman will be fighting under Fernando Maccachero in this competition.
Will Suleiman shine in this tournament and bounce back in style before his next fight in Desert Force? One thing is for sure, this guy surely doesn’t lack the will and perseverance! Come April and it will all be revealed.
Too bad he is 2-2 and got knocked out from below and is not exciting
