It’s official! Tarec Saffieddine is set to face Rory Mcdonald in Halifax, Nova Scotia, on Oct. 4.
After a successful UFC debut in January against Hyun Gyu Lim, Saffiedine has been looking to get back into the cage. He was expected to face Jake Ellenberger at UFC 172 in May, but had to withdraw due to injury.
‘The Sponge’ wanted this fight and UFC will make it happen.
Saffiedine recently called out MacDonald with an invetview with mmafighting.com’s Ariel Helwani . After MacDonald’s UFC 174 victory over Tyron Woodley, Saffiedine made it clear that he can beat the best and Rory is one of them.
“I watched that fight. Rory looked pretty good, he’s a great fighter,” Saffiedine said. “But you know, after watching the fight, I was like, ‘I can beat him.’ I have the tools and I have the skills and the mindset to beat the guy. He’s a great fighter, one of the best and he’s really close to a title shot and I want to fight the best. I truly believe I can beat the guy. Hopefully they give me that chance. I want to fight Rory, he’s an amazing fighter and we can put on an amazing fight, I believe. I can beat him.”
MacDonald (17-2) will enter the cage coming off back-to-back victories over Tyron Woodley and Demian Maia. He has won seven of his past eight UFC bouts, including a pair of TKO finishes.
Saffiedine might not earn a shot at the gold if he wins this, yet he can be more than sure that another win will get him a title shot no doubt.
What do you guys think? Will Saffiedine disable his opponent as usual or will Feras Zahabi’s Mcdonald find the perfect game plan again ?
