For those unaware of what took place in Kuwait last week, Wawan MMA, part of Wawan Sports Night, delivered a crowd pleasing main event and a historical co-main featuring MMA veteran Paulo Filho.
The event’s main attraction was a highly anticipated battle between local crowd favorite Abdullah Al Boushehri who took on Egypt’s Ramadan Noaman, in rivalry that started building up before the fight, especially at the pre-fight press conference where both fighters had to be pulled apart.
Both fighters made sure to raise interest and built a hype around their fight, a few weeks before fight night. The battle was quick to highlight the winner as it ended in decisive fashion in favor of Boushehri via a devastating first round KO. Though Noaman put up a valiant fight, showcasing some good footwork movement while touching Boushehri on multiple occasions, it was Boushehri who inevitably landed the finishing touches on Noaman, dropping him with a straight right, following it up through stacking him and finishing him quickly with some ground and pound. Ultimately, Noaman was out cold and Boushehri was the crowd hero of the night.
Inactive since 2014, Pride FC legend Paulo Fihlo made an impressive comeback against Egyptian fighter Mohamed Ashraf, finishing him easily in the 1st round. Though Ashraf approached the fight very technically in his striking, trying to land accurate punches and kicks on Fihlo, the Mixed Martial Arts veteran was patient, taking his time to trap the Egyptian against the cage where he shot and landed an easy takedown. Fihlo soon transitioned from side mount top position and locked up a reverse arm triangle that forced Ashraf to submit, giving Fihlo a pretty quick and easy victory.
