ArabsMMA was recently informed that the Desert Force promotion has decided that all title bouts will now be scheduled as five-rounders. A step that could very well be hell for some of the regional un-conditioned fighters, but for champions such as Mounir Lazzez, that was a wish come true. Mounir himself had expressed his desire for a 5-round title defense a while back when he posted the below on this official instagram account:
The champion Mounir Lazzez earned his title in March 2015 (Desert Force 16) when he finished Mohammad Ghorabi via TKO handing him his first loss under the promotion.
His first title defence was then scheduled at Desert Force 19 when he was set to face Jarrah Al Selawe, yet unfortunately for both fighters and all the fans, the bout was cancelled. Jarrah had a back injury and Lazzez’s in turn recurring injury left him unable to compete.
Mounir Lazzez:
“I am delighted that Desert Force has finally taken this decision. All professional title fights should be 5 rounders, and hopefully I’ll get the chance to defend my title when I get the OK from my physician to get back to fighting.”
Lazzez Added:
“Five round title fights are a must in all respectable organizations.”
It seems like the champ will be more than glad to defend his title in a 5 minute 5 round fight against Mohammad Fakhreddine. Yet no date for that title unification bout has been set.
Lazzez is still recovering from a recurring injury that first struck him after his fight with Ghorabi, and it might be a while before he’s back in the cage, all depending on doctor approval.
“It would be a pleasure to be the first champion in Desert Force to defend his title in a 5*5 main event, but health comes first, so as soon as the doctor gives me approval, I will contact the organization and set the best date for this fight.”
“The Sniper” is himself eager to get back in the cage and defend his title against Fakhreddine, as the two fighters have engaged in a heated clash at the Desert Force 20 event.
Interestingly enough, the champ has told ArabsMMA in the days leading up to the fight that Fakhreddine will win via decision, and his predictions have come true.
This fight could become the most eagerly-awaited in Desert Force history. Stay tuned on ArabsMMA.com for more updates!
