A lightweight bout between Abdulkareem Al-Selwady and Erik Carlsson is the latest addition reported to Brave 13 lineup.
The pairing with Carlsson (6-3 MMA, 1-2 Brave) was first announced by Al-Selwady’s (9-1 MMA, 4-0 Brave) management and officially confirmed today by Brave Combat Federation.
Brave 13 Europe Evolution takes place June 9 at the SSE Arena in Belfast, Northern Ireland. The card airs on Abu Dhabi Sports and headlined by a title fight between current bantamweight champion Stephan Loman who takes on Frans Mlambo in a highly anticipated rematch.
Ranked as the number 2 lightweight Mixed Martial Arts fighter in the Middle East, Al-Selwady has been showcasing some crazy impressive performances inside the Brave cage. Ever since his debut in Brave 1, Al-Selwady has been on a rampage of a winning streak, winning all of his 4 fights thus far at Brave, while appearing in perpetual development of his MMA skills. Not only that, Al-Selwady has been so consistent that we haven’t seen him forced to overcome any kind of real threat of adversity delivered by any opponent yet. His latest dominating performance over Charlie Leary cemented his position as the #1 lightweight contender, yet the promotion has not issued any reports on the current lightweight champion Ottman Azaitar situation.
After having fought most of his Mixed Martial Arts career as a welterweight, Erik Carlsson (6-3-0) has recently made a strategic change, deciding to compete and try his hand as a lightweight. After an unsuccessful welterweight debut at Brave 2: Dynasty against Jarrah Al-Silawi, Carlsson dropped down to the lightweight division. He made a successful lightweight debut at Brave 6, finishing Gadzhimusa Gaziev with a devastating knee to the body knockout in the first. Though his last bout ended in a split decision loss against Ahmed Amir at Brave 9: The Kingdom of Champions, Carlsson is absolutely certain that he has found his groove in the lightweight division and is planning to go far ahead, taking a heavy fight like this one.
