Abu Dhabi Grand Slam® Jiu-Jitsu World Tour returns to the Capital city of the United Arab Emirates at the Mubadala Arena on 10th, 11th and 12th January 2019

Abu Dhabi, UAE, 17th December, 2018: The UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation® [UAEJJF], the official authority for the sports of Jiu-Jitsu in the United Arab Emirates, announces the fourth leg of the most prestigious Jiu-Jitsu World: Abu Dhabi Grand Slam® Jiu-Jitsu World Tour 2018-19, to be hosted, at the Mubadala Arena in Abu Dhabi, UAE on 10th, 11th and 12th January 2019.

After three successful record breaking events in Tokyo [Japan], Los Angeles [USA], and Rio de Janeiro [Brazil], the Grand Slam in Abu Dhabi for the first time will be held over three days by some of the world’s best players, before it heads to its fifth and final leg in London [UK] on 9th and 10th March, 2019.

All nationalities are welcome to register; the medalists of each division will earn points in the UAEJJF World Rankings and cash prizes. Top ranked competitors will receive huge prizes at the end of the season according to the UAEJJF World Ranking.

Abu Dhabi Grand Slam® Jiu-Jitsu World Tour Season 5 Calendar

Leg 1: Moscow, Russia. 15th & 16th June 2019 – Arena Triumph
Leg 2: Tokyo, Japan. 28th & 29th July 2019 – OTA Gymnasium
Leg 3: Los Angeles, USA. 21st & 22nd September 2019 – Galen Center
Leg 4: Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. 15th, 16th & 17th November 2019 – Carioca Arena
Leg 5: Abu Dhabi, UAE. 16th, 17th & 18th January 2020 – Mubadala Arena
Leg 6: London, UK. 7th & 8th March 2020 – Copper Box Arena

Some of the top female players who will be competing include: Mayssa Bastos (49kg), Bianca Basílio (62kg), Thamara Silva (70kg) and Gabrieli Pessanha (90kg) and male players include: Hiago George (62kg) is the Rio champion already registered to compete. The bracket will most probably feature another tough duel with Abu Dhabi Grand Slam Los Angeles champion João Gabriel Batista.

Medals will be awarded for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places in each division. Prize money awarded will range from $500 to $2,500 in several categories, including juvenile, adult and masters, from blue, purple, brown and black categories for both men and women.

The first-place winner in the different weight categories will receive 200 points, the second-place winner will receive 160 points and the third-place winner will receive 120 points. Fourth-place will receive 100 points, Fifth to Eighth place will receive 80 points.


The event will be broadcasted live on Abu Dhabi Sports in the MENA region, Combate in Brazil, FloGrappling worldwide live stream, Airtel TV, Idea Movies & TV, Jio TV and Tripleplay IPTV in India.

The event will also be aired on delayed basis on FOX Sports in Asia, Fight Network in Canada, UK, Europe and MENA, Fight Sports in North America, Caribbean, Europe, Japan, Astro in Malaysia, Starhub in Singapore, ABS-CBN Sports in Philippines, Orange TV, IndiHome and MyRepublik in Indonesia, Singtel in Singapore and Australia, Azam Sports in Africa, EB-TV in Asia, TV Asahi in Japan, SFR Sports in France, Dubai Sports and Sharjah Sports in MENA.
