The Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship is set to return and bring a smashing finish to the 2015/2016 Jiu-Jitsu sport season, setting a new international standard in sports entertainment in its landmark eighth edition. Fan favourites and new challengers from across the world will descend on the global capital of Jiu-Jitsu, Abu Dhabi, from 15th-23rd April 2016 with a newly added Awards ceremony, introduced by the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation, taking place on 24th April exclusively for competition winners and invitees.
Organised by the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation, the Championship will deliver 10 days of unmatched action and family attractions in an event which has become a pillar of the UAE and wider region’s sports calendar. The newly expanded event will return to Abu Dhabi’s state of the art IPIC Arena in Zayed Sports City, a venue which will once again play host to thousands of the world’s best players from more than 100 countries.
New to this year and kick-starting proceedings for the Championship is the Abu Dhabi World Jiu-Jitsu Festival, an event open exclusively to UAE National Children which will run two days from 15th-16th April, where the participants can register on the opening day without prior-registration. Following the festival the competition will officially begin on the 17th and 18th April with the Abu Dhabi World Jiu-Jitsu Youth Championship, as players of all nationalities under the age of 18 except for UAE Nationals who would be selected through the UAEJJF Youth Rank 2015-2016 warm-up the mats ahead of the Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship 2016. The five-day competition that sees the world’s elite Jiu-Jitsu players go head-to-head in search of the division titles, and commences on the 19th and concludes on 23rd where there will also be a newly introduced event, the Abu Dhabi World Jiu-Jitsu Legends which would also take place on 23rd April and have a Light Weight, Middle Weight and Heavy Weight category which is limited to invites only. As the curtain closes on the Championship, it would end with an exclusive Red Carpet Awards ceremony on the 24th April for the main event winners. Winners will be selected according to new international rankings, developed by the federation during 2015/2016 season and based on the performance of the players in the final round of the tournament.
Unique to the Championship is its free and open to attend format for the public, continuing its commitment to grass roots participation and engagement with national events. The eighth edition will enthrall fans with a celebration of current talent and past development of the sport in unique and will see the return of an even greater IPIC Fan Zone which includes sponsor activities, family events and interactive stands, as well as the raffle where all visitors will have the chance to win exciting prizes.
Returning in support of the Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship 2016 will be the International Petroleum Investment Company (IPIC). IPIC is the Official Partner of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation and will be welcoming fans to their larger fan zone. The 2016 installment of the championship will also see Etihad Airways returns as the Official Airline, while Premier Motors and Land Rover take the position of Exclusive Automotive Partner. Also providing their backing to the Championship will be Official Media Partner, Abu Dhabi Media and Diamond Sponsors; Abu Dhabi Police and Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC). With attendees building year on year, the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation, expect more than 5000+ entries across the numerous divisions, with a wealth of talent predicted to flood to the UAE as several international trial tournaments have taken place across the globe, with only the best qualifying.
More prominent details and many surprises will be announced closer to the kickoff of the Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship, whose 2016 edition is confirmed by the Federation to excite and foster a motivating and supportive environment for players and fans alike.
The 2016 Championship schedule sees activities kick off in the capital from Friday, 15th April through till the 23rd April with an exclusive Red Carpet awards ceremony following the Championships conclusion on Sunday 24th. The newly expanded Championships will feature a range of exciting new activities and an extra day of intense head-to-head fights for fans to enjoy to be revealed over the coming weeks.
