Albazi, who now has 16 – 1 MMA record and remains unbeaten in the octagon took on the promotional newcomer, Costa. This was the Brazilian’s promotional debut.
Round 1
The first outing began with both fighters exchanging blows. After a while, Albazi decided to clinch and push his opponent toward the cage. It seemed that he was looking for a takedown. However, Costa broke himself free and returned to the center of the cage. Amir Albazi wasn’t discouraged by this as he made a second takedown attempt. And again he was unsuccessful. Costa closed the round with a combination.
Round 2
The Brazilian fighter started the round with combinations. Albazi responded with a fake takedown attempt. The Iraqi found success with a two-punch combo as he dropped Costa. After that, he managed to secure a top position. However, Costa defended himself well by grabbing both of Albazi’s arms. He also kept his opponent in his closed guard. This time ‘The Prince’ was the one to close the round with some of his strikes to Costa’s head.
Round 3
Once again both fighters started to trade blows. Costa mixed in some kicks into his combinations. Albazi responded with a front kick when the Brazilian charged forward. This gave him an opportunity to score a takedown. This time, however, the Brazilian’s guard was open, which led to him getting back up on his feet. When Costa threw his left hand ‘The Prince’ countered with a right uppercut. Costa dropped down to the ground and Albazi followed him and dished out some punishment. The referee stepped in to stop the fight at 2:13 of Round 3.
