Maher Saloum vs Bassel Narmouq
You know whats up next? That’s right…. It’s Maher Saloum vs Bassel Narmouq in a featherweight battle!
Maher is making his Desert Force debut and will look to make a lasting impression. He is a protege of Mohammad Fakhreddine. Bassel was part of Team Arkhagha on the last Academia show where he competed at lightweight. Let’s see what these two guys can bring.
Bassel’s fans are here in abundance tonight! As the pre-fight video rolls, they boo every mention or site of Maher Saloum and cheer like mad whenever Bassel’ face appears. This one will get loud!
Here comes Maher! In his corner we have Mohammad Fakhreddine and coach Hassan Berjawi. Although short when compared to Bassel Narmouq. he does pack a crazy amount of strength.
And here comes Bassel! This is insane! The crowd are n their feet. Holy crap! I dont know if they are showing this on TV but there is an entire section of the arena completely dominated by Bassel’s team mates.

Boy… talk about expectations :s The fans are going wild!
Round 1: Here we go. They touch gloves. Maher tries to close the distance. He goes for a kick which Bassel uses to go for the takedown. He gets it and is in Mahers guard. Some nice ground and pound by Bassel there. Maher needs to figure out a way to get up soon. Strikes from above by Bassel. Bassel stands and Mahers uses the chance to deliver an upkick. Nice elbow by Maher from below.
Big elbow by Bassel. Maher needs to get this standing soonest rather than later. Bassel passes Mahers guard and ends up in half mount with Maher against the cage. Bassel postures up and rains down strikes and elbows. He tries to end up in side mount but reverts back to half guard. Bassel doing a good job thus far! Strikes from above by Bassel. This is not a position Maher wants to find himself in too often. Maher attempting a choke hold of his own. Bassel trying to break out of it and he does! 10 seconds to go!
That was a 10-9 to Bassel!
Round 2: Two punch combo by Maher and a big head kick. Bassel uses the kick to go for the takedown and gets it. Maher very aggressive off his back! He just delivered a whole bunch of elbows to Bassel’s head. They jostle and Bassel finds himself in Mahers guard.
Bassel goes for the half-guard and gets it. Let’s see what he can do from here. Bassel goes for the leg lock! He is rolling. That looks horrible! The crowd is going crazy! Maher manages to escape the leg lock! He is back in Mahers guard. Nice jab from below by Maher. He might be on the bottom but boy does he strike. Bassel goes for a leg lock but doesnt get it and Maher uses the chance to stand. Yves Lavigne stands them up.
They touch gloves. Another takedown by Bassel! Maher is a force though of his back!
That’s it! 10-9 to Bassel again on account of the takedown and submission attempts. Much better from Maher though. He is viooooolent off his back
Round 3: Bassel is looking a bit gassed here. Maher looks far fresher. Can he complete a big comeback?
Maher lands a nice spinning backfist. Bassel moves forward with strikes. A huge overhand by Maher just misses. Maher goes for another strike that Bassel uses to take him down. And again Maher delivers punishing elbows and strikes form below. Man this guy is dynamite!
Elbows from below. Daaaaaamn! Bassel cant seem to land any of his elbows. Big strikes from Maher. Bassel seems to be trying to get a mount position but Maher doing a great job of defending. 90 seconds left in this one!
Maher now up against the cage. Can Bassel capitalize? 10 seconds left in this one! That’s it! We go to the judges!
I gotta give that one to Maher. He certainly delivered the pain there. 10-9
