One week after his highlight reel knockout against Shane Campbell, John Makdessi gets called by the UFC to face Donald Cerrone on one of the greatest pay-per-views of the year. Coming on less than a month’s notice to replace the injured Khabib Nurmagomedov, this will be by far the biggest step of Makdessi’s career.
The Tristar product knocked out Shane Campbell in the first round at UFC 186, earning a shot against Cerrone despite the numerous higher-profile fighters pitching in to face the “Cowboy”.
Makdessi (13-3) has won four out of his last five bouts in the UFC. The 29-year-old Lebanese striker has previous wins over Daron Cruickshank and Sam Stout.
Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone (27-6) holds a seven fight winning streak, his last victory being against former champ Ben Henderson in January.
The bout will take place on the main card of UFC 187 at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas.
