GFC (Gladiators Fighting Championship) organization rounded off its 6th MMA Professional Championship, which was held on the evening of Friday 30th of May, 2014 in Abdul AlKhatib Arena based in The Arabic Gym (AlNady AlAraby). The arena was crowded with MMA fans cheering and as usual attending to support their favorite fighters, who amused everyone with their outstanding performances.
The main event was between the Egyptian contender Ahmed Ibrahim and the American J.J. Ambrose, who’s holding the title. The fight was the cherry on top of this amazing event, as it had many twists and turns. Since the beginning of round 1, Ambros succeeded in pressuring and executing his wrestling strategy. In the third minute of the first round, Ahmed got into the zone and bombarded his opponent with combinations of strikes and kicks which almost had the American 2 inches away from forfeiting. After being saved by the bell, Ambrose started off the second round choking his opponent which granted him the win over Ahmed and defending his title.
Under 93 kg, the Egyptian wrestler was named the new champion after winning over former champion Mohammad AlDa’iy via submission in the first round. After the match, Mohammad showed a great sportsmanship and promised his fans a better abd stronger comeback. Ousama’s boxing skills improved, impressing everyone with such progress. He promised to reign h I s weight category for a long time.
For the bout under 84 kg, Islam Talba submitted his opponent Hussam Qashou’ in the first round. The Olympic wrestler showed the importance of wrestling demonstrated by his impressive throws.
Open weight category had the American Chase Qormly won by TKO in the first round over Abdul Mon’em Al Adouly. The Tunisia failed to implement his strategy giving the chance to his opponent to ground and pound him till the fight’s stoppage.
One of the most exciting fights in this championship was the one under 77 kg between Abdullah AlHayary from Kuwait and Fares AlKhatib from Jordan. Due to weak conditioning of Abdullah, the fight was stopped in the second round. The two champions gave it their all as the first round witnessed a full domination for Abdullah, taking his opponent down several times. The ground and pound almost for the Jordanian to forfeit. In the second round, the scene flipped 180 degrees where AlKhatib went in full force up until the 3rd minute, as the referee had to stop the fight due to TKO since AlHajery was drained. Both fighters delivered an epic fight, proving that they have brilliant raw talent in need of molding ans improvement.
Under 70 kg, Nasser Al’Anzy, fighting from Kuwait, brought up his A-game overpowering his opponent via striking. Nasser’s in his second participation showed great determination, surprising everyone with his skills and confidence, and dedicating this victory to his mother.
Under 61.2 kg, the American Jason Karbagal snatched a win in the early minutes of the first round against the Jordanian Jalal AlDa’jeh. By this fast submission, he gave no chance for the Jordanian to show off his skills.
As for the other 61.2kg fight, between the Iranian Adel Amin and the Lebanese Ali Shahin, it ended up by a win for Ali by decision.
