Yousri Belgaroui was the one who emerged with LFL gold after the dust cleared on his battle with Ahmed Sami. This contest was for the vacant LFL light heavyweight championship and served as the co-main event of Levels Fight League 11 on February 18th.
The Netherlands native, with Tunisian origins, emerged with a unanimous decision win and Belgaroui also improved his pro MMA record to 7-3 with back-to-back wins inside the cage now.
Levels Fight League 11
The 31-year-old utilized his deep knowledge of high-level striking derived from quite the kickboxing run Yousri Belgaroui had before beginning his mixed martial arts journey. Belgaroui has fought massive names like Jason Wilnis, Israel Adesanya, and Alex Pereira with a win over the current UFC light heavyweight champion transpiring at Glory 40.
‘Baby Face Assassin’ utilized his reach to great effect and showcased a high level of striking acumen while thoughtfully managing the distance. While being defensively responsible though, Belgaroui was demonstrably effective offensively and seemed close to scoring the finish on multiple occasions.
Sami showcased his resolve several times throughout the bout though and ended up encroaching on the final bell after twenty-five minutes of action.
The Egyptian‘s MMA record changed to 11-4 following the result and this bout tied up their series 1-1. Sami had previously defeated Belgaroui by way of a split decision at UAE Warriors 25 in February 2022.
The 29-year-old had also embarked on his second LFL title bid here with Ahmed Sami doing it in a different weight category no less. Sami fell short at Levels Fight League 5 against Tom Breese via guillotine choke in the second stanza of their June 2022 LFL middleweight title contest.
‘Lee’ had a two-fight winning streak snapped that comprised two first-round finishes under the UAE Warriors and Oktagon MMA banners, respectively. It remains to be seen whether a rubber match between Belgaroui and Sami goes down now. But what we do know is that Yousri Belgaroui is LFL’s new title holder at 205 pounds.
