It’s been a while since we’ve seen some serious action in the Desert Force light weight division, and what we mean by serious action is a 70 KG title fight with the champ, Tarek Hamdi.
Coming a long way from being an underdog and almost not making it on the Al Academiya season 1 show, Hamdi dug in deep and managed to defeat everyone in his path to achieve what was for many the unachievable. Although some of his fights were very controversial, who would have thought that Hamdi would stand tall as the Desert Force lightweight champion ? However, since winning the title back in the 28th of April 2014, Hamdi has still not once had to defend his title. Isn’t it about time now to do so?
Whereas a lot of people are rooting for Mohammad Yahya, who is 3-0 in Desert Force, with his last win over Ahmad Al Boussairy via round 1 TKO, Yahya seems like the golden boy to face Hamdi for the lightweight title, or does he?
Known for his excellent muay thai skills and outstanding sportsmanship, Mohammad Trigui has always been calm and calculating, but perhaps he’s just been too calm. It can be easily argued that Trigui is next in line for the lightweight title shot to face his former fellow Al Academiya Season 1 rival colleague and current lightweight Desert Force lightweight champion, Tarek Hamdi. Here’s a few reasons why:
-
1. Mohammad Trigui is 3-0 in Desert Force as a professional and his first professional win came over Amhad Al Boussairy whom Yahya has only recently defeated.
-
2. Trigui had two fight in Al Academiya at welterweight, losing a very close decision to Izzeldeen Belharch, who was the welterweight favorite. Coming off the show to a straight 3-0 professional career is surely impressive.
-
3. Before facing Mohammad Trigui, the Egyptian Mohammad Hassan Badawi’s professional record, which is now 10-2, was 7-1, the Lebanese Silverster Saba’s record was 2-2 and Ahmad Al Boussairy’s record was 3-1 . Surely then, Triki has faced fighters with a more impressive fight resume. Taking nothing away from Yahya’s opponents who are all good fighters, but a fighter’s resume has to count for something !
Therefore, those who argue that Mohammad Trigui deserves a title shot have a solid point here. So, our question for you is, who do you want to see for the lightweight title ? Is Trigui vs Yahya an option fight for the number 1 contender?
