The participation of Lebanon in the fourth Asian Beach Games was crowned by a first victory following the outstanding performance of player Karen Chammas.
Chammas won the silver medal in Sambo (Judo) after playing three tough games in the -64 weight category, where she showed great strength and endurance. She was able to defeat her South Koran opponent in the quarter finals, then the Syrian player Nadia Assaf in the semi finals before losing to the Mongolian champion.
Chammas was accompanied by a delegation formed by member of the Olympic committee Salim El Hajj Nicolas, president of the Judo federation Lawyer Francois Saade and administrative manager Jihad Hachem. The delegation supported Chammas all the way through and made sure to contact the president of the Olympic committee Jean Hammam to announce the good news.
Hammam congratulated Karen Chammas and expressed his appreciation, hoping that this first medal will pave the way for several others in this tournament and all those in which Lebanese athletes are participating.
The fourth Asian beach games are currently taking place place in the Island of Phuket (Thailand) starting November 14, with some of Asia’s best athletes fighting for the title in 29 sport categories.
