Dubai, UAE – Roger Huerta returned to the winning column Friday August 29, 2014 with a first-round TKO of Christian Holley at One FC 19. Huerta got the fight to the ground early and transitioned to the back of Holley, where he threw punches until the referee was forced to stop the fight.
“El matador” returned to his regular weight of 155 pounds for the first time since his stoppage loss to Eddie Alvarez in 2010. Now based at Tiger Muay Thai in Phuket, the 31-year-old bounced back from four-fight losing skid in a dominant fashion. He fought the undefeated Christian Holley (10-1) in Dubai and handed him his first whoop-ass.
Christian Holley had never even tasted defeat and has one of the best records in the lightweight division. Two minutes in the first round, Huerta lands some furious knees to the head. He moves to side control and continues dropping knees to the head and body. Holley gives up his back and it’s not long before Huerta flattens him out and drops punches until the referee has seen enough!
Post-fight, Huerta admitted that he very nearly walked away from the sport of MMA for good, though he credits his teammates to getting him back into competition. It is also worth mentioning that Desert Force Syrian fighter Tarek Suleiman himself was in Huerta’s corner on that night. Tarek has fought in the Desert Force 13 event in Abu Dhabi and scored a TKO victory as well.
