It seems that fight fans won’t have to wait to get one of the craziest main events of the year with a “Champion vs. Champion” showdown in Desert Force MMA Championship 23. The event has been announced to take place in Beirut on May 30, 2016 but no official details about the line-up have yet been disclosed.
Rumors of a welterweight battle between the interim title holder Mohammad Fakhreddine and the former undefeated welterweight champion Anis Al Hajjajy are “unofficially” circulating. We got ears in Lebanon and some more in Morocco!
With the current champion Mounir Lazzez injured and potentially sidelined for a while, Fakhreddine made it a point that he would fight whoever the Desert Force could get, be it at whatever weight.
A statement all too familiar to Hajjajy who has used it himself on more than one occasion. The Moroccan was unwilling to let go of the fact that he is still the welterweight champion regardless while the division moved on without him after dropping to lightweight.
If these rumors come to life, Hajjajy’s mind will come to peace but what will happen to ours? Will we have a non title fight? Will it be for the interim title belt? But what’s in it for Fakhreddine then?
Is lazzez out for the year or out for good? Desert Force did seem to exclude him from the champions poster dropped on social media but we assumed it was just a slip. Nevertheless, Lazzez did make a comment on social media smashing the promotion in his own way.
I guess we’re gonna have to wait until the rumor mill spins and spills some more. Stay tuned on ArabsMMA.com for more rumors and updates .
