Former TUF 22 contestant Mehdi Baghdad, hailing from Algeria, is now in the big leagues of the UFC and will step in with less than a week’s notice for Mairbek Taisumov. Taisumov has been ruled out of his slated bout with Chris Wade at UFC Fight Night 81 in Boston this weekend with travel issues.
Baghdad was member of the European Team headed by “The Notorious” Conor McGregor in the The Ultimate Fighter season 22. After beating the TUF 22 finalist Artem Lobov in the preliminary round, he got stopped by American Julian Erosa who won by a close majority decision.
Baghdad is also the RFA lightweight champion and was set to defend his title at RFA 35. Instead, he’ll bring his seven-fight winning streak to the octagon and look to hand Wade his first UFC defeat.
His opponent Chris Wade is currently riding a five-fight winning streak, including three victories at the UFC. He comes off a recent win against Christos Giagos at UFC Fight Night 68.
UFC Fight Night 81 takes place Jan. 17 at TD Garden in Boston. After early prelims on UFC Fight Pass, the remainder of the card airs on FOX Sports 1.
The event will be headlined by T.J. Dillashaw vs. Dominick Cruz for the bantamweight championship.
good luck Mehdi
