The welterweight interim title fight taking place tonight between Mohammad Fakhreddine and Jarrah Al Silawi was not only surprising to much of the fans, but also to the champ himself.
Little did the current desert force Welterweight champion Mounir “The Sniper” Lazzez know about what the promotion had in mind in regards to the division he heads, as he found out about the interim fight on TV!
Lazzez earned his title back in March 2015 (Desert Force 16) when he finished Mohammad Ghorabi via TKO. His first title defense was then scheduled at Desert Force when he was set to face Jarrah Al Selawe, yet unfortunately for both fighters and all the fans, the bout was canceled. Jarrah had a back injury and Lazzez’s in turn recurring injury that left him unable to compete.
Mounir Lazzez:
“I wasn’t happy with Desert Force not informing me about the interim title bout, I don’t see a reason for it. I have contacted Desert Force officials and they have justified the reasons behind it. We finally came to an agreement, and the fans will love the upcoming action.”
Fakhreddine and Jarrah had previously battled at Desert Force 15, Abu Dhabi when Al Selawi caught Mohamed with a kimura that almost broke his shoulder. Yet according to Lazzez, this time the result will be different.
“I beleive Fakhreddine will win this fight, he is the stronger fighter, he will earn a decision win.”
Very few, not to say the least, believe that this fight will actually go the distance but let’s wait and see!
Also on the Desert Force 20 card are Mohammad Ghorabi and Anas Siraj Mounir, two fighters who the champ has previously faced and defeated in two of the best fights in desert force history. Lazzez KO’d Anas with a nasty head kick and was the first to ever finish Mohammad Ghorabi in a cage.
“This card is stacked”, mentioned Lazzez, expect a lot of finished tonight!
“I believe Anas Siraj will KO Hamdi in the first round, Anas is on another level. I also believe Ghorabi will win by TKO”
I’ve fought both these guys and I know why they can deliver.
Wise words from the champ! Stay tuned on ArabsMMA.com tonight for full coverage of Desert Force 20.
Mounir’s level is way better than the df….him and nawras deserve to be in a bigger promotion.
I believe that mounir and fakhrdeen are going to be the coaches of the next season of al acadmyh..and thats the thing that mounir said the fans will love.
