The lightweight bout was part of the preliminary card of Saturday’s UFC 158 event at Bell Centre in Montreal where Lebanese –Canadian John “The Bull” Makdessi (11-2 MMA, 4-2 UFC) took a well earned decision win against Daron “The Detroit Superstar” Cruickshank (12-3 MMA, 2-1 UFC) , his second in a row after a recent two-fight skid.

The fight started out a little bit slow for Makdessi in the first round receiving some hard strikes to his left leg. Once John found his timing, he was dictating the fight for his opponent, Cruickshank, landing stiff counter punches, well timed strikes backed up by effective takedown defense that earned him his 4th decision win in the UFC.

Makdessi to ESPN reporter:

That was a tough fight. I felt strong and my cardio was good. I trusted my trainers when they said: ‘Just breathe and push the pace.’ I kept the pressure on him.

Makdessi handed Cruickchank his first UFC loss after a 6 win streak adding another big name to his list of battles and climbing the ladder to reach his goal as a top lightweight contender.

ArabsMMA congratulates John Makdessi for this win. We are very proud of Makdessi’s discipline and hard work , and the result was just as expected: a well-deserved win.
