Qatar BJJ foundation will bring one of the most illustrious tournaments in BJJ to the country this October! The infamous Russian combat promotion name ACBJJ – Absolute Championship Berkut Jiu Jitsu will launch its first event in Doha, Qatar with a grand prix featuring 16 of the finest grapplers in the +95 and -65 kilogram divisions.
This will mark the first of many Grand Prix’s set for Qatar this season 2017-2018. Signing up some of the world’s top BJJ athletes, ACBJJ 8 promises to present an elite event with fast paced action from some of the best grapplers on the planet.
The World Grand Prix brings an incredible line up with many IBJJF world champions, ADCC champions, and interestingly, some of our sport’s top up and comers.
Among the notable names bringing on a display of skills at the ACBJJ 8 mats are Luiz Panza, Leo Viera, Marcos Santa Cruz Oliveira, and Alexandre Trans to name a few.
BJJ black belt Luiz Panza is one of the top heavyweight competitors of his generation. A former professional model, Luiz Panza traded the catwalk for Jiu Jitsu, turning professional in 2013. On his first year as a black belt competitor, Luiz immediately made a name for himself piling up medals at the highest level of BJJ, including the Mundial, Pan American (gi and no gi), Brazilian Nationals AKA the Brasileiro (gi and no gi) as well as the world pro cup trials. One of the undeniable legends of jiu jitsu, 2x ADCC champion (4x finalist) and former IBJJF World champion Leonardo Vieira is set to return to competition at 41 years of age. Vieira made his career mostly in the featherweight division as well as the lightweight category where he had some of the sport’s most memorable matches against men such as Vitor ‘Shaolin’ Ribeiro and Márcio Feitosa. Marcos Santa Cruz Oliveira’s achievements in BJJ are too long to list, but his most recent is a double gold at Abu Dhabi World Pro, dominating the the black belts master 1 division in both 94+ Kg and open weight.
One of the top European grapplers of his generation, the Dane Alexander Trans started his career at the Checkmat academy in Copenhagen (Arte Suave), making a name for himself in the lower ranks of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu by conquering every important title in the international calendar before receiving his black belt from Leo Vieira on November 2011, he has since cemented his status of top level BJJ competitor by medalling in most of the top IBJJF tournaments.
